Olympics - February 12 - 15

I hope you all had a very nice relaxing long weekend!

This past week was a very exciting week at SJA as we began our SJA Olympics!

I set up an entire program for the kids to participate in within their houses to earn medals for the Olympics.

How the SJA Olympics were set up...

1. The kids got into their houses and competed against each other.
2. The winning house would get 300 house points, the second placed house would get 200 house points, and the 3rd place house would get 100 house points.
3. At the end of the 2 weeks, I will be accumulating the points and see which house wins the Gold, Silver and Bronze for the most house points!

Monday we did the luge/skeleton. The luge is a sport where the athlete lays on their back and slides down an ice track and completes against the clock. The skeleton is the same but the athlete lays on their stomach and goes head first.

Tuesday we did the Biathlon. The real biathlon is when the athlete cross country skis to a target and shoots with a rifle. Which ever athlete has the best time wins.
I had set up a course for the kids to follow, they had to start at one end of the gym and stand on frisbees which acted like their skis. They "skied" to the target stations and threw bean bags at the target!
Instead of shooting targets, I had the kids do bean bag targets where they had to hit the middle of the bullseye taped to the gym floor!

Wednesday I taught the kids curling! It was so fun!!! We slid bean bags into targets and tried to push the opponents bean bag out of the centre!

Thursday was the speech competition so we weren't able to have gym class!

Throughout the SJA Olympics I am going to show replays from each real sport so that the kids have an idea of what they're participating in!

So far, this was a very successful week and the kids really enjoyed the games. I am trying to instil good sportsmanship and team work within the houses!

Have a great week :)
